About Westampton

At a glance. Westampton is a Burlington County township of 9,121 people (2020 census) covering about 12 square miles, with Rancocas Creek along its southern edge.

History. Westampton was created from Northampton Township in 1850. Eastampton Township was split off from it in 1880, and in 1956 Willingboro gave Westampton the rest of Rancocas Village.

Places to know. Rancocas Village is a state and national historic district that grew up around the Rancocas Friends Meeting House, built in 1772. Timbuctoo was settled by former slaves and free Black residents beginning in 1826 and was a stop on the Underground Railroad. Peachfield dates to 1725. Rancocas State Park is in the township.

Library. The Burlington County Library, the main library of the county system, is at 5 Pioneer Boulevard.

Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Westampton Township construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
