About Tabernacle
At a glance. Tabernacle is a Burlington County township of 6,776 people (2020 census). Township offices are at 163 Carranza Road and are open from 8 AM to 4 PM. They are closed on weekends and major holidays.
History. This whole area was once part of Northampton Township, which was later divided into what are now Tabernacle, Southampton, Shamong and Woodland townships. The township says it was first known as "Tabernacle in the Wilderness" after a log church set up by a missionary named John Brainerd. The church no longer stands. Joseph Wharton bought a large part of the township in 1873. Tabernacle Township was incorporated by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 22, 1901.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Tabernacle Township construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
