About Moorestown
At a glance. Moorestown is a Burlington County township of 21,355 people (2020 census) covering about 15 square miles, with the ZIP code 08057. It was incorporated in 1922 and uses a council-manager government. Money magazine ranked it the best place to live in America in 2005.
Neighborhoods. Sections include Lenola, North Bend, Stanwick and West Moorestown.
Schools. Moorestown Township Public Schools serves the township, and Moorestown High School teaches grades 9 through 12. The private Moorestown Friends School is also in town.
Getting around. Route 38 is the main highway through the township.
Places to know. Main Street and the Moorestown Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, anchor the older part of town. Moorestown Mall is here, and the Burlington County Agricultural Center hosts a farmers market and workshops.
Selling a home. Moorestown requires a certificate for change in occupancy or ownership before closing. Public Works checks that sump pumps and roof drains aren't tied into the sanitary sewer, the water meter works, sidewalks are safe, no construction permits are still open, and nothing encroaches on township land. The certificate is good for 60 days. New Jersey also requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
