Privacy
South Jersey Today has no accounts, no ads, no cookies and no tracking scripts. We don't sell or share information about anyone. Here is everything the site keeps, in plain language.
Visiting the site
The site counts visits on its own server. Each visitor is counted as a scrambled code made from their internet address and browser, with a new random ingredient every day, so no one can be followed from one day to the next. Internet addresses are not saved. Daily totals are kept for 90 days.
Our hosting company (Render) and the network in front of it (Cloudflare) may keep standard technical records, like any website host, to run and protect their services.
Links, pictures and maps from other sites
Headlines link to the publishers who wrote them, and their sites have their own privacy policies. Headlines are text only: no pictures are loaded from other sites. Pointing at a headline can start a connection to that site so it opens faster.
The weather line comes from the National Weather Service. Our server fetches it; your browser does not contact the weather service.
Town maps load from Google only when you tap "Show map". "Share on Facebook" links open Facebook; no Facebook code runs on this site.
Things you send us
Events. What you type in the event form. Your email address is optional, is used only if there is a question about the event, and is deleted when the event is approved or rejected.
Photos. A photo you send, with the name, town and caption you give. Only the site owner sees it. If it is used, it is posted to our Facebook Page with your name and then deleted from this site; if it is not used, it is deleted within 30 days. To stop spam, the site counts how many photos an internet address sends in an hour, using a scrambled code that is not saved.
Best of South Jersey. The place details you nominate. To allow one vote per category per day, the site keeps a scrambled code of your internet address for that day only.
Business listings. The business details are shown on the site. The email address is required to confirm the listing, is never shown, and is deleted once the listing is reviewed.
To stop spam, the server briefly remembers a scrambled code of your internet address when you send a form, for up to an hour.
Our Facebook Page
The site posts events, weekend roundups, local news stories through the day, local trivia, questions and readers' approved photos to our Facebook Page. It does not read or collect anything about people from Facebook.
The weekly email
If you sign up for the weekly email, your email address is kept by Buttondown, the email service that sends it, and is used only to send that email. Every email has a link to unsubscribe. See Buttondown's privacy policy.
Correcting or deleting your information
To correct or remove an event, nomination or business listing you sent, message us on our Facebook Page and we will take care of it. Nothing else about you is stored.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
