About Mount Laurel
At a glance. Mount Laurel is a Burlington County township of 44,633 people (2020 census) covering about 22 square miles, with the ZIP code 08054. It was incorporated in 1872 and uses a council-manager form of government.
Neighborhoods. Communities within the township include Ramblewood, Rancocas Woods, Masonville, Fellowship and Centerton.
Schools. Mount Laurel Schools teaches pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. High school students attend Lenape High School in Medford, part of the Lenape Regional High School District.
Getting around. New Jersey Turnpike Exit 4 connects to Route 73, Interstate 295 has three exits in the township, and Route 38 is a major local road.
Places to know. NFL Films is based here, as is the main campus of Rowan College at Burlington County. Paulsdale and Laurel Acres Park are local landmarks. The township also gave its name to the Mount Laurel doctrine, New Jersey Supreme Court rulings from 1975 and 1983 requiring towns to allow affordable housing.
Selling a home. Mount Laurel requires a certificate of continuing occupancy before a home or business gets a new owner or occupant. The construction office does a visual check of the parts of the building it can reach. A rental that already passed its annual township inspection doesn't need a second one. New Jersey also requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
