About Somerdale
At a glance. Somerdale is a Camden County borough of 5,566 people (2020 census). Borough Hall is at 105 Kennedy Boulevard.
History. The borough's first council sat in 1929. In 1963 Mayor Martin C. Hanson led the fight to keep the White Horse Tavern from being torn down; he later wrote a book, Taverns, Farms, and Hamlets of Somerdale. A time capsule buried at Borough Hall in November 2019 is to be opened in 2079.
Schools. Sterling High School, for ninth through twelfth grade, is in Somerdale.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Somerdale borough construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
