About Stratford
At a glance. Stratford is a Camden County borough of 6,981 people (2020 census).
History. The borough dates its founding to 1889 and was incorporated in 1925. The owners of the Rural Land Improvement Company named it after Stratford-upon-Avon in England.
Schools. The Stratford School District teaches kindergarten through eighth grade: Parkview School has preschool and kindergarten through third grade, and Yellin School has fourth through eighth. Older students go to Sterling High School in Somerdale.
Parks. The borough's parks include Veterans Park at Grand and Vassar avenues and Saratoga Park on Saratoga Road.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Stratford borough construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
