About Oaklyn
At a glance. Oaklyn is a Camden County borough of 3,930 people (2020 census). Borough offices are at 500 White Horse Pike.
History. The Borough of Oaklyn was incorporated in 1905. The Oaklyn Fire Department traces its start to Oaklyn Fire Company No. 1, organized on June 7, 1902. Its members built a temporary wooden firehouse in September 1903 and replaced it with a two-story brick one in 1907. A second company, Welcome Volunteer Fire Company, was chartered in November 1906. Its first firehouse stood at White Horse Pike and West Clinton Avenue, where borough hall is today.
Schools. Oaklyn Public School, at 136 Kendall Boulevard, teaches pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Students in grades 6 to 12 go to Collingswood Middle School and Collingswood High School.
Getting around. U.S. Route 30 is the main road through the borough. NJ Transit buses 400, 403 and 450 serve Oaklyn.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Oaklyn borough construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
