History. The area was first called Leedsville and was settled by Quakers in the mid-1700s. A rail line opened along Shore Road in 1880. Linwood became a borough in 1889, formed from parts of Egg Harbor Township, and was reincorporated as a city in 1931. Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Linwood construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
