About Hammonton
At a glance. Hammonton is an Atlantic County town of 14,711 people (2020 census) covering about 41.3 square miles, with the ZIP code 08037. It was incorporated in 1866. Known as the Blueberry Capital of the World, it grows most of New Jersey's blueberries, and it has deep Italian-American roots.
Schools. Hammonton Public Schools runs four schools through Hammonton High School, which also takes students from Folsom and Waterford Township.
Getting around. Hammonton station is on NJ Transit's Atlantic City Line between Philadelphia and Atlantic City. U.S. Route 30, the Atlantic City Expressway and Route 54 serve the town.
Places to know. The Red, White and Blueberry Festival celebrates the harvest, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel's Italian festival has run since 1875, one of the oldest in the country. Wharton State Forest is close by.
Selling a home. Hammonton's code does not require a certificate of continued occupancy to sell or rent a home. New Jersey also requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
