About Egg Harbor Township
At a glance. Egg Harbor Township is an Atlantic County township of 47,842 people (2020 census) covering about 75 square miles, including water. It was incorporated in 1798 and is governed by a five-member township committee. It is a separate town from Egg Harbor City.
Neighborhoods. Communities within the township include Bargaintown, the seat of township government, plus Cardiff, English Creek, Farmington, Scullville, West Atlantic City and part of McKee City. Its ZIP codes are 08232 and 08234.
Schools. Egg Harbor Township Schools serves the township, with Egg Harbor Township High School for grades 9 through 12.
Getting around. Most of Atlantic City International Airport is in the township, along with the FAA's William J. Hughes Technical Center. The Atlantic City Expressway, Garden State Parkway, U.S. Route 9 and U.S. Routes 40 and 322 all pass through.
Places to know. Storybook Land, a children's theme park, opened here in 1955. Harbor Square is a redesigned shopping center on the site of a mall that opened in 1968, and the Egg Harbor Township Nature Reserve occupies a former mining site.
Selling a home. Egg Harbor Township does not require certificate of continued occupancy inspections for home sales or rentals. The township's fire inspection office handles the smoke alarm certificate needed for a resale or a new tenant. New Jersey also requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
