Selling a home. In Galloway, a home sale needs a fire certificate: the fire department checks only the smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and fire extinguisher, before the new owners move in. Rentals are different. They need a housing certificate of occupancy every year, or at each change of tenant if that comes first. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
