About Hainesport
At a glance. Hainesport is a Burlington County township of 6,035 people (2020 census). The municipal building is at One Hainesport Centre on Marne Highway. Hainesport was formed in 1924 from part of Lumberton.
Schools. The Hainesport Township School District teaches pre-kindergarten through eighth grade at Hainesport School, 211 Broad Street. Older students go to Rancocas Valley Regional High School, which serves Hainesport, Eastampton, Lumberton, Mount Holly and Westampton.
History. The Lenape called the area Sandhickney, and Quakers settled here in 1677. Around the Revolution it was called Long Bridge, for a wooden bridge over Rancocas Creek. It became Haines' Port in 1848, when Barclay Haines built a pier on the creek, and was shortened to Hainesport by 1850.
Parks. Part of Rancocas State Park is in the township, with hiking, biking and horse trails and canoe and fishing access to Rancocas Creek. Long Bridge Park, a Burlington County park, lies between Deacon Road and the Mount Holly Bypass. Big Rusty, a 20-foot sculpture by Danish artist Thomas Dambo made from discarded materials, was built here in 2023.
Getting around. Route 38 runs through the center of the township. NJ Transit bus 317 runs between Asbury Park and Philadelphia, and bus 413 between Camden and Burlington. BurLink's B1 route runs between Beverly and Pemberton.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Hainesport Township construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
