About Eastampton
At a glance. Eastampton is a Burlington County township of 6,191 people (2020 census). Township offices are at 12 Manor House Court.
History. A mill village grew up on Rancocas Creek here in the 1700s and 1800s. Hezekiah B. Smith arrived in 1865 and turned it into Smithville, a company town built around the H. B. Smith Machine Company, which made the Star bicycle. A bicycle railroad ran the 1.8 miles from Smithville to Mount Holly until 1898. Eastampton was incorporated as a township in 1880.
Places to know. Historic Smithville Park is in the township. The Manor House, now the municipal building, began as a farmhouse built in 1835.
Schools. The township links to Eastampton Community School and Rancocas Valley Regional High School.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Eastampton Township construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
