About Buena Vista Township
At a glance. Buena Vista is a township of 7,033 people (2020 census) at the western end of Atlantic County, bordering Cumberland and Gloucester counties. Ninety percent of it lies within the Pinelands.
Neighborhoods. Communities in the township include Richland, Milmay, East Vineland, Newtonville, Collings Lakes and New Kuban, a Russian community established in 1953.
History. The township was established on March 5, 1867, when it separated from Hamilton Township. A hotel owner, George B. Cake, brought the name to the area in 1848, after the Mexican War. Folsom separated from the township in 1906 and Buena Borough in 1949.
Schools. The Buena Regional School District serves the township. St. Augustine Prep is in Richland.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Buena Vista Township construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
