About Barrington
At a glance. Barrington is a Camden County borough of 7,075 people (2020 census).
History. The area was part of Gloucester County until Camden County was created in 1844. A railway came through in 1877, with a station called Dentdale. William Simpson, one of the investors who bought land here, named the place after Great Barrington in Massachusetts. Barrington was incorporated as a borough in 1917.
Schools. The borough lists Avon School and Woodland School, along with Saint Rose of Lima School for kindergarten through eighth grade.
Places to know. Thirteen walking trails loop through town, marked by small color-coded signs on the street signs. The borough also has a dog park.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Barrington borough construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
