About Medford Lakes
At a glance. Medford Lakes is a Burlington County borough of 4,264 people (2020 census), set among pine trees and small lakes.
History. Medford Lakes began as a resort where everything was to be built of logs. The Medford Lakes Development Company was formed in 1927, the Colony Club Pavilion went up in 1928 and the Log Cabin Hotel in 1931. The pavilion collapsed under snow in 1938. Medford Lakes became its own borough in 1939. Only log cabins were built here through the 1930s and into the 1940s; by the 1950s the rule was relaxed to allow siding made to look like logs.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Medford Lakes borough construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
