About Woodbury Heights
At a glance. Woodbury Heights is a Gloucester County borough of 3,098 people (2020 census). Borough offices are at 500 Elm Avenue.
History. A house at 407 Oak Avenue, built in 1771, is on the national historic register. In 1892 six businessmen from Philadelphia and Camden formed the Land Title Company, bought land beside the railroad and laid out the streets. A train station followed in 1898. The borough was incorporated on May 25, 1915.
Places to know. Simon M. Snook donated Glen Lake to the borough. It is no longer used for swimming, but the borough calls it one of the most popular places in town.
Schools. Woodbury Heights Elementary School on Academy Avenue was built in 1925. Gateway Regional High School on Tanyard Road, built in 1963, also teaches seventh and eighth grades.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Woodbury Heights borough construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
