About Woolwich
At a glance. Woolwich is a township of 12,577 people (2020 census) covering 21 square miles in western Gloucester County.
History. Swedish and Finnish settlers established the first European settlement here along Raccoon Creek in 1642. Woolwich was first incorporated in 1767 and takes its name from Woolwich, England.
Getting around. Route 322 runs through the township, which is reached from Exit 2 of the New Jersey Turnpike and from Interstate 295.
Schools. The township is served by the Swedesboro-Woolwich School District and the Kingsway Regional School District.
Open space. The township has preserved more than 3,000 acres of farmland and open space.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Woolwich Township construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
