About Paulsboro
At a glance. Paulsboro is a Gloucester County borough of 6,196 people (2020 census) on the Delaware River. The borough office is at 1211 Delaware Street.
History. The area was once called Crown Point. In 1777 a fort was built at Billingsport from plans by the Polish patriot Kosciuszko, and Washington and Lafayette inspected it that August. The borough says the land for it, bought in 1776, was the first land the federal government ever purchased. The railroad arrived in 1876. Paulsboro and Billingsport, until then part of Greenwich Township, were incorporated as the Borough of Paulsboro in 1904. The borough is named for Samuel Paul.
Schools and library. The borough lists Paulsboro Public Schools and the Gill Memorial Library.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Paulsboro borough construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
