About West Deptford
At a glance. West Deptford is a Gloucester County township of 22,197 people (2020 census) covering about 17.8 square miles along the Delaware River. It was incorporated in 1871.
Neighborhoods. Sections include Thorofare, Red Bank, Verga, Paradise, Parkville, Greenfields Village, Colonial Manor and Eagle Point.
Schools. West Deptford Public Schools runs three elementary schools, West Deptford Middle School and West Deptford High School.
Getting around. Interstate 295 crosses the township with exits 19 to 23, along with Routes 44 and 45 and Crown Point Road. NJ Transit buses run to Philadelphia.
Places to know. Ladd's Castle, built around 1688, is known as Gloucester County's oldest brick home. The Port of Paulsboro, partly in West Deptford, is being redeveloped.
Selling a home. West Deptford requires a change of occupancy certificate before anyone new moves into an existing home. The construction office inspects within 10 working days of a complete application, checking smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, the water meter, pools and property maintenance code items.
