About Glassboro

At a glance. Glassboro is a Gloucester County borough of 23,149 people (2020 census) covering about 9.4 square miles, with the ZIP code 08028. It became a borough in 1920.

Rowan University. Rowan University began in 1923 as the Glassboro Normal School and later became Glassboro State College before taking the Rowan name. The mixed-use Rowan Boulevard development is one of the town's landmarks.

History. In June 1967, President Lyndon B. Johnson and Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin held a summit at Glassboro State College, chosen partly because it sits roughly halfway between New York and Washington.

Schools. Glassboro Public Schools teaches pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, with Glassboro High School for grades 9 through 12.

Getting around. Route 55, Route 47 and U.S. Route 322 serve the borough.

Selling a home. Glassboro's Code Enforcement Office issues a resale certificate when a home is sold, with inspections by appointment only. The smoke alarm, carbon monoxide alarm and fire extinguisher check happens during the same visit. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
