About Upper Township
At a glance. Upper Township is a Cape May County township of 12,539 people (2020 census) covering 63.4 square miles at the top of the county. Township offices are at 2100 Tuckahoe Road in Petersburg.
Neighborhoods. Petersburg was once called Littleworth, and Tuckahoe was once called Williamsburg. The township says Tuckahoe is the only Indian place name still in use in the county.
Beaches. The township has beaches in Strathmere, Tuckahoe and Beesleys Point.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Upper Township construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
