About Sea Isle City
At a glance. Sea Isle City is a Cape May County beach town of 2,104 people (2020 census) on Ludlam Island, with a summer population of about 40,000. It was incorporated in 1882, and its ZIP code is 08243.
Schools. Public school students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade attend the Ocean City School District, including Ocean City High School.
Getting around. Exit 17 of the Garden State Parkway leads to Sea Isle Boulevard and JFK Boulevard. Ocean Drive runs about five miles along the island.
Places to know. The 1.5-mile beachfront Promenade runs from 29th to 57th Street, with shops and restaurants around JFK Boulevard. Townsends Inlet is at the island's southern end, and the Fish Alley area recalls the town's Italian-American fishing history.
Selling a home. Sea Isle City requires a certificate of smoke detector compliance from the City Fire Official before a home is sold, rented or gets a new occupant, and the same visit checks vents. No home may be sold or occupied until it passes. New Jersey also requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
