The whole city is the Cape May Historic District, a National Historic Landmark known for its Victorian buildings.

Getting around. Route 109 connects the city to the southern end of the Garden State Parkway. The Cape May–Lewes Ferry crosses Delaware Bay from North Cape May to Lewes, Delaware, and NJ Transit buses serve the city.
Places to know. The Washington Street Mall is the pedestrian shopping street. Visitors also come for the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, the beaches (Cove Beach is at the city's southern tip) and the Cape May Lighthouse just outside town.
Selling a home. Cape May's Bureau of Fire Prevention inspects every one- and two-family home before it is sold and issues the state certificate for smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher, good for 180 days. Rental properties register with the bureau and are inspected once a year. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
