About Avalon
At a glance. Avalon is a Cape May County borough of 1,243 people (2020 census).
Beaches. Lifeguards are on duty from 10 AM to 5 PM from the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend, and swimming is allowed only where they are on duty. Children under 12 do not need a beach tag, and Avalon and Stone Harbor honor each other's tags. The beach is closed to the public from 9 PM to 4 AM, and trespassing on the dunes is prohibited.
Library. The Avalon Free Public Library is at 235 32nd Street. It is open Monday to Thursday from 9:30 AM to 8 PM, Friday and Saturday from 9:30 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from 9:30 AM to 2 PM.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Avalon borough construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
