About West Cape May
At a glance. West Cape May is a Cape May County borough of 1,010 people (2020 census). Borough offices are at 732 Broadway.
History. West Cape May was incorporated in 1884. The Whilldin-Miller House, a timber frame home built about 1715, is one of the oldest houses on Cape Island. The historic core of the borough was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
Places to know. The borough sits on one of the world's top migration paths for birds, butterflies and dragonflies. A farmers market runs in summer, and the West Cape May Lima Bean Festival is held in the fall.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the West Cape May borough construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
