History. Charles K. Landis founded Vineland in 1861 and laid out the unusually wide Landis Avenue downtown. Thomas Bramwell Welch produced his grape juice here, and the area's poultry farms once earned it the nickname the Egg Basket of America. The present city was formed by a merger approved in 1952.

Schools and colleges. Vineland Public Schools serves the city, with Vineland High School for grades 9 through 12. Rowan College of South Jersey has a campus in Vineland.
Getting around. Route 55 connects Vineland north toward Glassboro and Philadelphia, and Routes 47 and 56 also cross the city.
Places to know. Landis Avenue and the Landis MarketPlace, the Delsea Drive-In movie theater, the Palace of Depression and the Vineland Historical and Antiquarian Society.
Selling a home. Vineland requires a Certificate of Inspection before settlement when a home, duplex or multi-family building is sold, including as-is sales, short sales and vacant homes. Apply at the Fire Administration building on West Plum Street and allow at least four business days. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
