Register by October 13, vote early starting October 24, or show up November 3. The dates, the hours and where to go.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. If you only remember one other date, make it Tuesday, October 13. That's the last day to register. Miss it and you're watching this one from the couch.

Not sure you're registered? It takes a minute to check: voter.svrs.nj.gov/registration-check

You've got three ways to vote, and none of them are hard.

  • Vote early, in person. Saturday, October 24 through Sunday, November 1. Monday to Saturday it's 10 AM to 8 PM, Sunday it's 10 AM to 6 PM. Go to any early voting site in your county. No appointment.
  • Vote by mail. If you're mailing the application, your county clerk has to have it by October 27. You can also walk into the clerk's office and pick up a ballot until 3 PM on Monday, November 2.
  • Vote on Election Day. Polls are open 6 AM to 8 PM.

Mailing your ballot back? It has to be postmarked by Election Day and reach your county by November 9. Honestly, just use a drop box. They take ballots until 8 PM on Election Day and you skip the "did it get there" stress.

What's on the ballot around here: a U.S. Senate seat, your seat in the U.S. House, and a pile of county, town and school board races. The local ones decide things like what gets built down the street, so don't quit halfway down the page.

Your sample ballot comes in the mail from the county clerk. It shows exactly what you're voting on and where your polling place is. Don't toss it with the pizza coupons.
