Veterans Day is Wednesday, November 11. Here are the South Jersey ceremonies posted so far, plus two events the Saturday before.

Veterans Day is Wednesday, November 11. Most of the ceremonies around here happen on the day itself, mid-morning, and two events land on the Saturday before. Here's what's on the calendar so far.

Saturday, November 7:

  • Millville: the 25th Annual Veterans Appreciation Day at the Millville Army Air Field Museum, 1 Leddon Street. It runs 10 AM to 2 PM, with the ceremony at 11 AM. It's free, and all veterans and the public are invited.
  • Richland, in Buena Vista Township: The Veterans Express on the Seashore Lines, from the Richland Village Train Station at 1272 Harding Highway. Trains leave at 11:11 AM and 1:30 PM, each a round trip of about an hour, and there's a 1940s-style show too. Veterans and up to three family members ride free, but you have to reserve tickets online, and they may ask for proof of service at the station.

Wednesday, November 11:

  • North Wildwood, 10 AM: a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park, Spruce and New York Avenues, sponsored by VFW Post 5491.
  • Camden, 11 AM: a ceremony on the fantail of the Battleship New Jersey, 62 Battleship Place. Free and open to the public.
  • Cherry Hill, 11 AM: a short service in front of the flagpole at American Legion Post 372, 1532 Martin Avenue. Rain or shine.
  • Sea Isle City, 11 AM to noon: a ceremony at Veterans Park. If it rains, it moves to the Community Center, 4500 Central Avenue.
  • Winslow Township, 11 AM to noon: at the Municipal War Memorial, 125 South Route 73 in Braddock. If it rains, it moves to the courtroom.

Can't get away on a Wednesday morning? The two Saturday events are the easy ones to make.

The state holds its own ceremony Wednesday at 11 AM at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Holmdel, off Parkway exit 116. That's a long ride up from most of South Jersey, so a local one is the easier trip.
