Haunted hayrides, an old prison after dark and a junkyard you ride through at night. Plus two picks that won't traumatize the little ones.

Some people want a pumpkin. Some people want to be chased through the woods by a guy with a chainsaw. This one's for the second group.

  • Night of Terror at Creamy Acres, Mullica Hill. The big one. Several attractions on one farm, including a haunted hayride and a paintball hayride where you get to shoot back.
  • HallowSpire, Southampton. Three haunts in one stop: the Jersey Devil Terror Trail, a haunted corn maze and an abandoned circus. Because of course there are clowns.
  • The Haunting on High Street, Mount Holly. It's inside the old Burlington County Prison, which is a museum the rest of the year. A real old jail does a lot of the work for them.
  • Fear in the Forest, Browns Mills. A half-mile haunted trail through the woods on a working blueberry farm. It only runs two nights each October, so don't sleep on it.
  • Miller's Haunted Farm, Winslow Township. About a mile of walking through themed woods with live actors, plus an indoor maze.
  • Terror in the Junkyard, Egg Harbor Township. A haunted hayride and maze through a junkyard, put on by the Scullville Volunteer Fire Company. They also run sensory-friendly hayrides for anyone who wants fewer scares.
  • Forever Forest, Egg Harbor City. A tree farm turned haunted trail, with a ride called the Trolley of Terror.
  • Ocean View Trail of Terror. The Ocean View Fire Company's haunted walk in the woods behind the firehouse on Route 9.

Got little kids, or just not into jump scares? Two good ones down in Cape May. Ghoul Spring Village fills Historic Cold Spring Village with Halloween scenes and costumed characters on several October evenings. And Cape May MAC runs ghost walks and trolley tours that are more spooky stories than screaming.

Most of these only run on certain nights, so check dates and tickets before you drive out. Links to all of them are in our fall guide: southjersey.today/fall
