About Pittsgrove
At a glance. Pittsgrove is a Salem County township of 8,777 people (2020 census) covering 45.42 square miles.
History. Pittsgrove is named for Sir William Pitt, the English statesman. It was set off from Pilesgrove in 1769 and incorporated in 1798. Brotmanville and Norma were among the communities planned in the late 1800s for Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe.
Neighborhoods. Its hamlets are Centerton, Olivet, Willow Grove, Brotmanville and Norma. The township borders Upper Pittsgrove, Elmer, Franklin, Vineland, Deerfield and Upper Deerfield.
Good to know. State Police from the Bridgeton barracks patrol the township.
Selling a home. New Jersey requires a certificate for working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and a portable fire extinguisher before a one- or two-family home gets a new owner or tenant. Ask the Pittsgrove Township construction office whether anything else is checked before a sale. Rules change, so check with the town before listing.
